The short answer
EZRoutePlanner is the better free choice and the better fit for planning at a computer or for a team; RoadWarrior Pro is cheaper for one busy driver who plans on a phone. As of October 2026, RoadWarrior's free plan holds 8 stops a route and doesn't optimize; Pro is $15 a month or $120 a year for 120 stops, and Teams is $49 a month plus $20 per driver. EZRoutePlanner optimizes up to 30 stops a route free and is paid from $20 a month, with no per-driver fee.
Choose RoadWarrior if
- you plan and drive on your phone and need up to 120 stops for $10 to $15 a month
- you're a FedEx Ground or OnTrac contractor and want to import manifests
- you need delivery time windows and a check-in at each stop
- you run a team and want live GPS tracking of every driver
Choose EZRoutePlanner if
- you want a free plan that optimizes, without entering a card
- your routes run past 120 stops (EZRoutePlanner takes up to 200)
- you plan at a computer, from a spreadsheet or a pasted list
- you send routes to several drivers and don't want to pay $20 a month for each
01
RoadWarrior's free plan doesn't optimize
As of October 2026, RoadWarrior's free plan holds up to 8 stops a route, and you build each route by hand. Its compare table marks route optimization, bulk stop upload, time windows, stop check-ins and ETA sharing as not included on Free. What you do get is turn-by-turn navigation, round trips, and hand-off to Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze.
So on the free plan you put the stops in order yourself, much as you would in Google Maps. To have RoadWarrior work out the order, you need Pro.
Trying Pro or Teams first means entering a payment method. The trial lasts 7 days, and RoadWarrior's FAQ says you're charged when it ends unless you cancel: through the App Store or Google Play for Pro, by card for Teams.
EZRoutePlanner's free plan is built the other way: 30 stops a route, optimized in one click as often as you like, with no card and no trial clock. It holds 30 saved addresses and unlimited routes, one at a time, so it suits a small regular list better than a new list every day.

What do RoadWarrior Pro and Teams cost in 2026?
As of October 2026, RoadWarrior Pro costs $15 a month, or $120 a year (which works out to $10 a month), billed through the App Store or Google Play. Teams costs $49 a month plus $20 per driver, per RoadWarrior's FAQ example, billed by card. EZRoutePlanner has a free plan and paid plans from $20 a month, priced by the addresses you keep saved, with drivers free.

Checked October 21, 2026 on ezrouteplanner.comRoadWarrior's pricing page and FAQ describe the Teams base differently. The FAQ says the $49 covers your dispatcher account and prices 3 drivers at $49 + 3 × $20 = $109 a month; the plan card says the base includes 1 driver seat. Check the total when you sign up.

RoadWarrior vs EZRoutePlanner: what you'd pay, solo or with a team
For one driver with a fresh list every day, RoadWarrior Pro is cheaper. Once routes repeat or several drivers are involved, the per-driver seats on Teams make EZRoutePlanner the lower bill.
| Compared | RoadWarrior | |
|---|---|---|
| A few small routes8 stops or fewer, a few times a month | RoadWarriorFree, in the order you set | EZRoutePlanner$0 (Free), optimized |

| Owner with 5 drivers400 regular customers | RoadWarrior$149 (Teams: $49 + 5 × $20) | EZRoutePlanner$40/mo (Standard)Lower cost |
RoadWarrior prices as of October 2026. Teams figures follow its FAQ example; if the base includes a driver seat, as its plan card says, each Teams figure is $20 lower. EZRoutePlanner prices are monthly (billing every 6 months takes 25% off), set by the addresses you keep saved plus a monthly allowance of new ones; 100 new stops a day for 22 days is 2,200 new addresses a month. Drivers cost nothing extra.
05
RoadWarrior Teams or a shared link: paying for each driver
RoadWarrior Teams adds what a dispatcher needs on top of Pro:
- A web portal to build routes from a spreadsheet, a FedEx or OnTrac manifest, or pasted addresses.
- Automatic splitting of a stop list across drivers, with every route optimized at once.
- A live map of every driver, per-stop notes, and route history with reports for payroll and client billing.
- 200 stops a route instead of Pro's 120.
Each driver uses the RoadWarrior app with their own login, and Teams covers their subscription. The cost grows with the team: $20 a month for every driver you add.
EZRoutePlanner covers the planning half for a flat price. Every customer sits on one map; you lasso stops into a route for each driver, optimize each one in a click, and send it as a link or QR code that opens in the phone's browser with no app or login. A team with 400 regular customers fits Standard ($40/mo) whether it has 2 drivers or 10. What you give up is live tracking, check-ins and automatic splitting.

Who makes RoadWarrior? MapQuest, with a rebuilt app
RoadWarrior has been around since 2013 on Android and 2015 on iPhone. In February 2022, System1, the company that owns MapQuest, announced it had bought RoadWarrior, and RoadWarrior's About page says it's developed by MapQuest.
On October 14, 2026, RoadWarrior released a rebuilt iPhone app with a new design: "RoadWarrior has been rebuilt from the inside out." The release notes say routes, stops and workflows work the way they always have. Its pricing page also lists truck-safe routing and mileage tracking as coming soon.
It's a well-established app: 4.6 stars from about 7,500 ratings on the App Store and 4.0 from 10.6K on Google Play, with more than a million Android installs, as of October 2026.
MapQuest also runs a free web route planner of its own. If you're weighing that too, see EZRoutePlanner vs MapQuest.

09
RoadWarrior or EZRoutePlanner: which should you pick?
RoadWarrior Pro is a good deal for one driver who plans on a phone: optimization for up to 120 stops, time windows, manifest import and check-ins for $10 to $15 a month. Its free plan, though, is a manual 8-stop route builder.
EZRoutePlanner is the better free option, the better fit for planning at a computer, and the cheaper way to send routes to a team, since it doesn't charge per driver. Pick RoadWarrior Teams instead if you need to watch each driver's location live.

Questions people ask about RoadWarrior
Is RoadWarrior free?
Yes, with limits. As of October 2026, RoadWarrior's free plan takes up to 8 stops a route, and you create the route by hand: optimization, spreadsheet upload and time windows need Pro. Navigation hand-off to Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze is included. EZRoutePlanner's free plan optimizes up to 30 stops a route, with no card.
Does the free version of Road Warrior optimize routes?
No. RoadWarrior's compare table marks route optimization as not included on the free plan, which allows manual route creation for up to 8 stops. Optimizing starts on Pro at $15 a month, or $120 a year. If you want free optimization, EZRoutePlanner optimizes up to 30 stops a route on its free plan, as often as you like.
How much is RoadWarrior Pro?
$15 a month, or $120 a year (about $10 a month), billed through the App Store or Google Play, as of October 2026. Pro takes up to 120 stops a route and adds optimization, spreadsheet and FedEx/OnTrac manifest import, time windows, check-ins and ETA sharing. Its 7-day free trial needs a payment method.
How many stops can RoadWarrior handle?
8 stops a route on Free, 120 on Pro and 200 on Teams, per RoadWarrior's pricing page in October 2026. A longer day has to be split into more than one route. EZRoutePlanner takes 30 stops a route on its free plan and up to 200 on paid plans.
How much does RoadWarrior Teams cost?
$49 a month plus $20 per driver, per RoadWarrior's FAQ example: a team of 3 drivers is $49 + 3 × $20 = $109 a month, billed by card. Teams adds a web dispatch portal, route assignment, live driver tracking and 200 stops a route. Each driver uses the RoadWarrior app with their own login.
Who owns RoadWarrior?
MapQuest. System1, MapQuest's parent company, announced it had acquired RoadWarrior on February 10, 2022, and RoadWarrior's About page says the app is developed by MapQuest. RoadWarrior first came out on Android in 2013. On October 14, 2026, it released a rebuilt app with a new design.
