The short answer

Maptive is the better tool for analyzing customer data on a map; EZRoutePlanner is the better and cheaper tool for planning routes. As of October 2026, Maptive has no free plan (a 10-day trial), and Pro costs $110 billed monthly or $1,250 billed yearly for one user. Its optimizer handles about 70 stops and keeps the first and last stops fixed. EZRoutePlanner is free for 30 addresses and 30 stops a route, with paid plans from $20 a month and up to 200 stops.

Choose Maptive if

  • you need heat maps, territories, drive-time polygons or census data on top of your spreadsheet
  • your data runs to tens of thousands of rows (Maptive takes 100,000 locations per data set)
  • you build maps for presentations, reports or a website
  • you have a one-off project, where the $250 45 Day Pass covers it

Choose EZRoutePlanner if

  • routing is the job, and you plan routes every day or every week
  • a route has more than about 70 stops
  • you want a free plan to keep, not a 10-day trial
  • drivers or reps need the route on their phone with a Navigate button

01

What Maptive is for, and where routing fits

Maptive is business mapping software. You upload a spreadsheet, paste data, link a Google Sheet or sync a CRM (Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Pipedrive or Keap), and it turns the rows into an interactive map. From there it has more than 60 tools: heat maps, bubble maps, territories, drive-time polygons, distance matrices, and census data at ZIP and tract level. A data set can hold 100,000 locations, and a map up to 200,000 markers. Reviewers rate it 4.7 on G2 and 4.6 on Capterra, according to the badges on its pricing page.

Route optimization is one of those 60 tools. Every plan includes every tool, so you don't pay extra for routing; you pay for users and data capacity. The flip side: if routing is all you need, most of what Maptive costs pays for analysis you won't use.

That's the fair way to read this comparison. For territory planning, market analysis or a map for the board deck, Maptive is the stronger product, and EZRoutePlanner doesn't try to compete. For deciding the order of tomorrow's stops and getting that order onto a driver's phone, EZRoutePlanner is built for exactly that.

How Maptive's route optimizer compares

Maptive's Routing and Directions panel builds and optimizes one route at a time. Here's how it works next to EZRoutePlanner's Optimize Route.

Maptive or EZRoutePlanner: which costs less for your job?

It depends on the job. For analysis, Maptive's price is fair and EZRoutePlanner isn't an option. For routes, the gap is wide.

Using Maptive and EZRoutePlanner together

Plenty of teams don't have to choose. Maptive answers where to focus; EZRoutePlanner answers in what order to drive.

  1. 1

    Plan territories in Maptive

Map the full customer list, color it by revenue or last visit, and draw territories or drive-time areas. This is the part Maptive does best.

  2. 2

Pick the accounts for the week

Filter or lasso the accounts a rep should visit. Maptive can export a lasso selection, or you can filter the spreadsheet you uploaded in the first place.

  3. 3

    Import them into EZRoutePlanner

Drop the CSV or Excel file in. EZRoutePlanner finds the address columns, even when street, city and ZIP are split, and flags any address it isn't sure about.

  4. 4

    Optimize and send

Lasso stops into routes, press Optimize Route, and share each route as a link or QR code. The rep taps Navigate at each stop to open Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze.

07

Where each is the better tool: Maptive or EZRoutePlanner

Where Maptive is stronger

  • More than 60 analysis tools: heat maps, bubble maps, territories, drive-time polygons and census data at ZIP and tract level.
  • Large data: 100,000 locations per data set and up to 200,000 markers on a map.
  • CRM and Google Sheets sync, an API on Pro and up, and SSO and audit logging for IT reviews.
  • Presentation-ready maps you can share, embed on a website or print poster-size.
  • Every tool on every plan, and a $250 45 Day Pass for one-off projects.

Where EZRoutePlanner is stronger

  • A free plan to keep (30 addresses, 30 stops a route) instead of a 10-day trial.
  • Paid routing from $20 a month, against Maptive Pro at $110 a month or $1,250 a year.
  • Up to 200 stops a route on paid plans, against about 70.
  • The route can end wherever is shortest, loop back to the start, or finish at a pinned stop; Maptive always keeps the last stop where it is.
  • Each driver gets a live link or QR code with a Navigate button, plus Google Maps links and CSV, Excel and PDF exports.

08

The verdict: Maptive for the analysis, EZRoutePlanner for the routes

Maptive is a capable mapping and analysis product, and judging it as a route planner undersells it. If you need to see your market, carve territories or present location data, it's worth the price, and the 45 Day Pass makes one-off projects cheap.

If the weekly job is visiting customers in a sensible order, you'd be paying $110 a month for an optimizer of about 70 stops and many tools you won't open. EZRoutePlanner does the routing on a free plan or from $20 a month, with up to 200 stops a route and a link for every driver.

  • Sales ops or analyst planning territories

    Maptive

Heat maps, territories, census overlays and data sets of up to 100,000 rows.

  • Rep or tech routing the same customers weekly

    EZRoutePlanner

600 accounts on Standard for $40/mo, with each route sent to a phone as a link.

  • One-off analysis project

    Maptive

The 45 Day Pass gives one user every tool for $250, with no subscription.

  • Courier or delivery driver with long days

    EZRoutePlanner

Up to 200 stops in one route, ending wherever is shortest or at a stop you pin.

Questions people ask about Maptive

Is Maptive free?

No. Maptive has a 10-day free trial with every feature and no credit card, but no free plan. An older help-center page still mentions a "Maptive Free" tier; the current pricing page doesn't offer one. The cheapest ongoing plan is Pro at $110 a month, as of October 2026. EZRoutePlanner's free plan has no time limit: 30 addresses and 30 stops a route.

How much does Maptive cost per month?

$110 a month for Pro on monthly billing, or $1,250 a year billed yearly, for one user, as of October 2026. Team is $220 a month or $2,500 a year and includes five users. Extra users are $750 each on Pro and $500 on Team, and Enterprise is quoted for 10 or more users. A 45 Day Pass costs $250 once.

How many stops can Maptive optimize?

About 70. Maptive's pricing page says route optimization covers "up to 70 stops", while its sales route planner page and a July 2026 blog post say 73. The limit is the same on every plan, and the optimizer keeps your first and last stops in place while it reorders the middle. EZRoutePlanner takes 200 stops a route on paid plans.

Does Maptive have a driver app?

No. We found no Maptive app in the App Store or Google Play. The web app works in a mobile browser, and Maptive says it exports turn-by-turn directions to a driver's phone or navigation app. EZRoutePlanner sends each route as a link or QR code that opens in any phone browser, with a Navigate button for Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze.

Can Maptive split stops between several drivers?

Not automatically. Maptive's sales pages mention balancing routes across drivers, but its routing guide describes building each route yourself and adding more routes to the same map, each in its own color. EZRoutePlanner works the same way: you lasso stops into routes and optimize each one. For automatic splitting across a fleet, look at a dispatch tool such as OptimoRoute.

Is Maptive or Mapline better for route planning?

It depends on the routes. Mapline's Pro plan optimizes many vehicles at once with time windows and capacities, but Mapline doesn't publish prices. Maptive publishes prices and optimizes one route of about 70 stops at a time. Both are mapping suites first. Mapline vs EZRoutePlanner covers Mapline in detail.

What's a cheaper alternative to Maptive for planning routes?

EZRoutePlanner, if you mainly need routes. It's free for 30 addresses and 30 stops a route, and paid plans start at $20 a month, priced by saved addresses rather than users. It doesn't do heat maps, territories or census data, so keep Maptive if you use those.
